Handlebar

The handlebar and stem are where your hands steer the bike. Their width and length set how upright or stretched out you sit.

Brakes slow the bike. Disc brakes squeeze a rotor fixed to the wheel hub; rim brakes squeeze the wheel rim itself.

Tyres are the bike's only contact with the ground. Their width and tread decide grip, comfort and rolling speed.

Motor

The motor adds its power to the rider's effort. It sits either at the cranks or in the rear wheel hub; its torque, in newton-metres, tells how hard it can push on a climb.

Battery

The battery stores the energy the motor uses. Its capacity is given in watt-hours (Wh); how far it lasts depends on the rider, the terrain and the assist level.
